Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of vanilla Greek yogurt (I like Oikos triple zero with no sugar or added fat)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • ¼ cup of your favorite seeds (hemp, chia, flax are some of my favorites)
  • 1 ½ cups of your favorite berries (I love sliced strawberries and blueberries)
  • 3 tbsp sliced almonds for the topping

Start by lining a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. Pour the yogurt into a bowl and stir until smooth and uniform. Next, spread the yogurt mixture evenly on the lined baking sheet. Top the yogurt with berries and seeds. Drizzle maple syrup or honey, then finish with a sprinkle of almonds. Freeze for twelve hours, then cut into pieces and enjoy.. Store the bark in freezer-safe bags or a container until ready to eat.

3 Benefits of Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt can be turned into a tasty fro-yo quickly with the help of your favorite berries and seeds. Unlike standard yogurt, which tends to be sweeter, Greek yogurt has less sugar, more carbs, and a tart taste. Greek yogurt is cultured, fermented, and strained. It’s naturally packed with nutrients, making it an ideal base for a healthy sweet treat.

When it comes to the recipe’s yogurt base, you might be thinking you have to choose between Icelandic vs. Greek yogurt. Both deliver a similar result and have shared benefits. However, Icelandic yogurt goes through further straining than Greek yogurt, making it very dense. Icelandic yogurt’s major advantage is that it has a higher protein content than Greek yogurt with less sugar and carbs. So, it’s ideal for a post-workout recovery snack. But it’s entirely down to you which yogurt you prefer in your frozen yogurt bark recipe.

1. High in Protein

Greek yogurt is high in protein, filling you up and keeping you feeling fuller for longer. Getting enough protein is essential for your immune system, muscles, energy levels, and so much more. I can’t emphasize the importance of protein enough.

You can get about twenty grams of protein in just under one cup of Greek yogurt. It’s an excellent protein source with roughly two to three times as much protein as standard yogurt.

2. Packed with Probiotics

Greek yogurt is full of probiotics. Probiotics are live microorganisms that provide a host of benefits for the body and the mind. The beneficial bacteria may help improve the digestive system and promote a healthy heart.

Your gut bacteria is essential for your immune system and fighting off illness. A healthy gut microbiome contributes to your overall well-being. Your gut microbiome contains trillions of microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Boost your immune system with foods like berries, nuts, seeds, and fermented foods to support your gut.

3. Rich in Calcium

Another benefit of Greek yogurt is that it’s rich in calcium. Calcium is crucial to building strong bones and muscles. This essential mineral helps your blood to clot and muscles to contract. You can find about ninety-nine percent of the body’s calcium in your bones and teeth.

Greek yogurt is a good calcium source to keep your bones strong, especially as you get older. Adults need about 1000 mg of calcium daily between the ages of nineteen and fifty. Other rich calcium sources include broccoli, kale, and foods fortified with calcium like plant milk and some cereals.
