Pros

OpenFit offers both nutritional and fitness guidance under one umbrella. They have live online personal training sessions across a range of workout formats. Personalized meal plans are also provided. Workout sessions are streamable, and the OpenFit community is large and inclusive. The pricing is affordable, at $8 per month for a 12-month subscription. And they even offer a 14-day free trial.

Cons

OpenFit provides little in the way of contact information. Some online reviewers have experienced problems with customer service. There is also very little information available regarding their refund policy. Some users have also had issues with the reliability of the app.

Bottom Line

OpenFit provides access to unlimited workouts at very affordable prices. The combination of nutritional guidance, fitness training, and expert advice provides everything you need to get you on track and keep you motivated for a fit future. Customer service issues need to be ironed out, but overall this is a great addition to the online fitness landscape.

What is OpenFit?

OpenFit is an online fitness and nutrition subscription service. It was created in 2019 by John Congdon and Selina Tobaccowala. Congdon was the co-founder of BeachBody and is still the CEO of that company. OpenFit was created to provide a fitness training and nutrition service that includes meal plans and streaming workouts all in one place.

Introducing Openfit: The Streaming Platform for Fitness, Nutrition, and Wellness – Openfit

OpenFit also sells a line of workout supplements. These include OpenFit Fuel, OpenFit Recovery, and OpenFit Plant-Based Protein Powder. At the end of 2020, OpenFit joined Ladder, the sports nutrition company started by a number of leading sports and fitness personalities, including Arnold Schwarzenegger.

OpenFit Workouts

When you become an OpenFit subscriber, you have access to live fitness classes that are led by certified personal trainers. You will receive one-on-one feedback to help you get the most benefit from your workout. You can also access on-demand workouts across the following workout types:

Xtend Barre

Xtend Barre is an amalgamation of cardio, barre, and Pilates designed to create a lean, strong, sculpted body. The program was created by former dancer Andrea Rogers, who also presents this 30-minute streamed workout.

XB Pilates

XB Pilates is a more pilates-focused workout than Xtend Barre. This fun yet challenging 30-minute workout class combines Pilates moves with cardio exercises to target the abs, booty, and thighs while developing overall strength.

Rough Around the Edges

Rough Around the Edges is an intense, results-driven series of workouts unlike anything you’ve seen before. That’s because it was created and is led by professional stuntwomen. With this program, you will use your body in ways you never thought possible. It includes karate and kickboxing moves to take your fitness to the next level.

Yoga 52

Yoga 52 offers three flexible daily yoga programs, each created and led by one of the world’s top yoga instructors. These programs range from an 8-week results-driven challenge program to a 52-week class that you practice just once per week. Yoga 52 is suited for brand new yoga practitioners and veterans alike.

These are just a few of the options available. If you are looking for the best workout for weight loss for you, you will find it on this app.

Custom Meal Planner

The OpenFit app is designed to help you make healthy nutrition easy for you. The app guides you to create personalized meal plans and to track the calories that you are putting into your body. They offer a number of different paths to healthy eating, including the Sugar Free 3 Program, which is designed to help you get control of sugar in your diet inside of 3 weeks. This 21-day program includes:

  • A customized daily meal plan
  • Fun, informative videos
  • Guidance on defeating sugar cravings
  • How to decode nutrition labels
  • Fat loss tips

OpenFit also offers one-minute meal plans that provide a quick, easy way to plan and prepare healthy foods on the go. The app does all the calorie and macronutrient calculating for you. It even provides you with a weekly shopping list!

How Much Does OpenFit Cost?

OpenFit offers a free 14-day trial. Membership costs are based on the length of your subscription as follows:

  • 3 month subscription = $13.00 per month
  • 6 month subscription = $10.00 per month
  • 12 month subscription = $8.00 per month

You will pay your subscription in one billing, so the 3 month sub will cost you $39.00, with $60 for six months and $96 for 12 months.

OpenFit supplements are sold separately.

Online Weight Loss Programs

The online weight loss industry is huge, so there is a lot of competition to OpenFit. Their unique selling point is that they combine comprehensive personalized nutritional guidance with personalized workouts. OpenFit can be considered as an offshoot of Beachbody, rather than a direct competitor to it.

The main competitors to OpenFit are dedicated to either fitness or nutrition. In terms of workouts, the major competition is HASFit, which provides 100 million free workouts, and Boho Beautiful, which has a yoga emphasis. In terms of nutrition guidance, NOOM is a main competitor to OpenFit.

What’s Not So Good

The refund policy offered by OpenFit is very unclear. If you sign up through Roku or the App store/iTunes, there is no refund available at all. If you subscribe through any other avenue, OpenFit advises exploring the refund policy offered by that particular provider. This lack of a money back guarantee is disappointing.

A number of customers have also reported problems with customer service. The only way to contact OpenFit is by filling out a generic “Contact Us” form on the official website.

Summary

OpenFit offers a unique all-in-one workout and nutritional guidance program that is designed to give you everything you need to get fit and healthy. The combination of live and on-demand workouts cover a wide spectrum of workout types, including some that are unique to this platform. The nutritional guidance is comprehensive and easy to follow. This app is offered at a very reasonable price. OpenFit does need to sharpen up on their customer service and offer a solid money back guarantee. Overall, however, this is a very good app that can help you get to your fitness goals faster.
