Pros

AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbells provide a maximum weight of 71 pounds per dumbbell. The process to change the resistance plates is simple and effective. There are 12 different weight settings per dumbbell, allowing you to do away with an entire rack of weights.

The AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbell requires a single-level movement to change the weight. This differs from most competitors, which require changes at either end of the weight.

Once selected, the plates are securely locked, so there is no problem with them becoming loose. The clean, ergonomic handle design is also comfortable to grip.

Cons

The adjustment mechanism is constructed of plastic, so it is not as rigid as possible. The 71 lb adjustable dumbbells are sold individually rather than as a pair. It can also be hard to get the weight back on the rack unless the plates you aren’t using are straight up and down.

Bottom Line

Despite a few quirks, AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbells are a good purchase for anyone wanting a compact, economical dumbbell. It’s sturdy, competitively priced, and functional and comes in various weight options.

Dumbbells with Adjustable Weights

For hundreds of years, the dumbbell remained unchanged. After all, what more could you do to improve a handle with heavy weight on either side?

It turns out that there was quite a lot you could do. Powerblock introduced a revolutionary dumbbell that allowed you to quickly and change the resistance levels of a pair of dumbbells. This meant that, with a single pair of these adjustable dumbbells, you could have the same workout potential as a whole rack of standard dumbbells.

The Powerblock adjustable dumbbell proved to be a winner. As you’d expect, the market was soon flooded with imitations. Some, like the Bowflex Adjustable Dumbbell, were on par with the original, while others were nothing more than cheap and nasty knock-offs.

The AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbell is a recent addition to the adjustable dumbbell market. In this review, we will compare AtivaFit with its competitors, Powerblock and Bowflex. We will also share quantitative performance measurements and delve into the evolution and design of the product.

AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbells

AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbells are available in a range of maximum weights to suit users of all strength and fitness levels. The weight options include:

  • 12.5 lbs
  • 27.5 lbs
  • 44 lbs
  • 55 lbs
  • 71.5 lbs

In this review, I will focus on the 71.5 lb dumbbell.

The AtivaFit 71.5 dumbbell allows you to select between 11 and 71.5 lbs. There are 12 selections, allowing you to replace a complete rack of fixed-weight dumbbells. The iron plates are very durable. A reinforced plastic molded base provides a secure base to hold and select the weights from.

The dimensions of this dumbbell are 7.5 inches wide, and 16.3 inches in length. When you add the base, the width is 8.7 inches.

The handle features a non-slip rubber grip to help to keep your hands sweat-free and secure. The dial-tech technology allows you to adjust the weight with a simple twist of the dial. This is a huge time-saver over the old way of adjusting dumbbells.

Back in the old days, you’d have to unlock the collars, pull them off, then find additional weight plates, slide them on, and relock the collar. That could take more than a minute!

One thing I really like about the AtivaFit Dumbbell is that adjustment requires the movement of a single level. This is different from most adjustable dumbbells, which require changing both ends of the dumbbell. As a result, you can switch the weight on an AtivaFit dumbbell in half the time it would take on competing models.

One thing that isn’t so great is when you put the dumbbells back into the rack. Unless the plates already sitting in the rack are perfectly vertical, you will struggle to get the weight back into the rack. This can be frustrating when you’ve just fried your biceps with a set of forced rep curls.

AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbell Workout

With its rapid change system, the AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbell is ideal for circuit type workouts that have you moving from one exercise to the next with no rest between them. Here’s a six exercises full body dumbbell workout at home that you can get dome inside of 30 minutes:

  • Dumbbell Squats – 15 reps
  • Floor Chest Press – 15 reps
  • Lunges – 12 reps each leg
  • Shoulder Press – 10 reps
  • Alternate Dumbbell Curls – 10 reps
  • Skullcrushers – 10 reps

Most people should be using about the same amount of weight when doing dumbbell squats and the floor chest press. So it won’t be until you get to exercise #3 that you’ll need to make a quick weight change.

Use the same weight for lunges, shoulder press and alternate dumbbell curls. Then make a final change to drop the weight down for skullcrushers.

Start with two rounds of this circuit, giving yourself a two-minute rest between rounds. Work up to doing four rounds of this circuit.

This compact weight will replace a whole rack of dumbbells but it can be quite tricky getting the weight back on the rack when your set is done. Overall, though, AtivaFit Adjustable Dumbbells represent good value in the adjustable dumbbell market and gets a tick of approval from us here at 1AND1.
