As a fitness trainer, I’ve heard the same excuse from clients over and over again about why they didn’t work out or eat well that week. They were “too busy,” “too tired,” or “couldn’t afford it.” I’m not knocking these excuses; we’ve all gone through periods where these things are true. However, when it comes down to it, these are not the real problems. You know how to get fit. However, the real problem is your fitness mindset. Your attitude.
Most likely, this is an issue of self-sabotage. Why do we sabotage ourselves before we ever even try to put our best foot forward? Simply because we don’t have faith in ourselves. We look too far ahead and fear failure. We realize that we have to invest time and dedication. But, we are scared to commit.
We live in a world of instant gratification, so having to work towards something long term can be scary. The amount of time and dedication you put in is up to you, and that can be a lot of pressure! However, it can also be empowering, because there are few things we can control in our lives besides our bodies and attitudes.
How to Get Fit: Take Control and Change Your Fitness Mindset
We’ve all heard the phrase “you create your own reality.” It’s true, so take it to heart! What you believe you can or cannot do will have major implications for what happens in your life. If you don’t think you can do something, you won’t be able to. If you do believe you can do something, you will start putting the steps into motion that will help you to achieve it.
I know it’s not easy to change our attitudes. The beginning is especially difficult, but as a habit starts to form, it will become easier. I challenge you to think about a goal you really want to achieve and stop telling yourself “I can’t” and start telling yourself “I can,” “I am,” and “I did.” Does that mean it will be easy? No. But you can do it if you motivate yourself. Just keep your attitude ahead of the little bumps you hit along the way.
Stop getting upset over mediocre results, when you are putting in mediocre effort. Your potential is in your own hands. If you’re unsure of how to start an attitude change, check out this audiobook on habits—a book that changed my perspective and literally changed my life.
Don’t be afraid. Focus, be determined, hopeful, and empowered.
