  • 10 flavors to choose from
  • Mixes well, no clumps and minimal foam
  • 22g of protein per scoop: perfect for supporting your muscle-building goals.
  • Uses a blend of 6 different proteins, giving you fast and slow-releasing amino acids.

  • High carb and fat content
  • Only 46% of calories from protein per serving
  • At $0.09 per gram of protein, it’s not the cheapest whey protein out there.

Our Verdict

This protein powder tastes amazing and mixes like a dream. But it’s not the leanest option out there, so if you’re cutting calories, you might want to look elsewhere.

The blend of 6 different proteins is a nice touch for supporting your gains. Just keep in mind that it comes with a slightly higher price tag than some other brands.

A solid choice if taste and mixability are high priorities. But if you’re watching your macros or your wallet, you might want to explore other options before committing.

Prepping for the taste test!

Taste Test (7.25)

I tested two flavors: Chocolate Milkshake and Vanilla Ice Cream.

The Chocolate Milkshake flavor was the real winner, scoring a solid 7.5 out of 10. Vanilla Ice Cream wasn’t far behind with a respectable 7 out of 10.

Considering the amount of extras and additives in Syntha-6, I expected the taste to be even better. But overall, it’s still a pretty decent-tasting protein powder that gets the job done.

Mixability (8)

When it comes to mixing up a Syntha-6 shake, you won’t have any issues. I give it an 8 out of 10 for mixability.

It blends smoothly and consistently, giving you a lump-free drink with a nice texture. No clumps or grittiness to worry about here.

Nutritional Value (6)

I had to give Syntha-6 a 6 out of 10 in this category. It’s loaded with artificial flavors, additives, and fillers that just don’t sit right with me.

The protein blend is decent, but the filler ingredients detract from the overall nutritional quality. If you’re looking for a clean, no-nonsense protein powder, Syntha-6 might not be your best bet.

Cost (7)

At around 9 cents per gram of protein, BSN Syntha-6 scored a 7 out of 10 in the Cost category. It’s right in line with the average price point for whey protein powders across the entire market.

Of the protein powders we’ve reviewed, it’s on the higher side. If you’re looking for a cheaper whey protein, check out Dymatize ISO100, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey, Naked Nutrition Whey, and Six Star Whey, as those are the cheapest whey proteins we’ve reviewed and come in at $0.02, $0.03, $0.05, and $0.05 per gram of protein respectively.

Check out the pricing table below for more details on price comparisons.

Third Party Testing (0)

After doing my research, I couldn’t find any evidence that Syntha-6 undergoes third-party testing. That means there’s no independent verification of the ingredients or quality.

While this doesn’t necessarily mean there’s anything wrong with Syntha-6, it does make it harder to trust the label. Third-party testing adds an extra layer of transparency and accountability that’s missing here.

Brand Reputation (7)

BSN has been around since 2001, so they’ve had plenty of time to build up a reputation in the fitness world. They’ve won over 35 sports nutrition awards in the past six years alone.

However, BSN has also faced some controversy over the years, particularly around misleading ingredient labels. While they’ve earned a lot of recognition for their products, these lawsuits do raise some questions.

Overall, I give BSN a 7 out of 10 for brand reputation. They’ve got a strong presence and a loyal following, but the controversy knocks them down a few points.

BSN Syntha-6 Whey Protein VS The Market

*You can read full reviews of each product by clicking on the product name.

**Prices will vary depending on tub size, time of purchase, and place of purchase.

As you can see, Syntha-6 is on the high end of price per gram of protein. But keep in mind, the above list only includes the proteins we’ve reviewed. There are 350+ protein powders on the market, and the average price per gram of protein is around $0.09, which puts Syntha-6 right in the middle of the pack.

Let’s see how BSN Syntha-6 compares in terms of protein per serving and calories per serving:

Product Protein Per Serving Calories Per Serving
Clean Simple 20g 110
Flavcity Whey Protein Smoothie 25g 160 to 220
Ghost Whey Protein 25g 130
Syntha-6 Whey Protein 22g 190
Dymatize ISO-100 25g 120
MyProtein Clear Whey Isolate 20g 80
Naked Whey Protein Powder 25g 150
Transparent Labs 100% Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate 28g 130
Garden of Life SPORT Certified Grass Fed Whey 24g 120

As you can see, Syntha-6 Whey is on the high end of calories per serving, which is why I scored its nutritional value so low.

Here’s how it compares in terms of protein density, i.e. the % of calories from protein:

Product % of Calories from Protein
Clean Simple 73%
Ghost Whey Protein 77%
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 80%
Dymatize ISO-100 83%
MyProtein Impact Whey Isolate 80%
Transparent Labs 100% Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate 86%
Syntha-6 Whey Protein 46%
Flavcity Whey Protein 45% to 63%

As you can see, Syntha-6 is one of the least dense whey protein powders on the market due in large part to the 14 to 16g of carbs it includes per serving (depending on the flavor you choose).

Syntha-6 Whey IS a Good Option if:

  • You don’t mind a few extra carbs and fats in your protein shake.
  • You’re looking for a protein powder that prioritizes taste and flavor variety above all else.
  • You want a blend of fast and slow-digesting proteins to support muscle growth and recovery.

Syntha-6 Whey is NOT a Good Option if:

  • You’re trying to cut calories and want a lean, low-carb protein powder.
  • You’re looking for an all natural supplement without much filler content.

Final Thoughts:

Syntha-6 is a solid choice if taste and variety are your top priorities. It can definitely help you put on mass and recover at the gym, but it’s not the cleanest or densest protein out there.

If you’re cutting calories or looking for the cheapest option, you might want to explore other options. Syntha-6 is a middle-of-the-road protein powder that’s been around for years. It’s not perfect, but it gets the job done.

If you want to give it a try, you can pick it up on Amazon or directly from BSN’s website. If you want to see more reviews, check us out on YouTube!
