The Foundations of Charisma
Shakespeare said, “To thine own self be true, and it must follow . . . thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Honesty is the most important skill for charisma. It’s very important to be honest with yourself, or you won’t be able to accurately see your strengths and areas of improvement. Also, people find trustworthiness and honesty attractive, so it will make you more charismatic, too.
Each of the skills presented in the book will build on the others. A deep commitment to honesty, for example, will help you speak with more confidence. One of the keys to charismatic authority is only saying things you can back up.
Other than the skills you’ll learn in this book, there are many benefits of reading itself. Reading helps unlock your ability to be empathetic with others. A good book is a window into the author’s soul. The more you read, the easier it will be to empathize with people you meet and associate with.
The Charisma Myth is not just a book to make you more likable; it’s also a wellness book. In order to project charisma, you have to be healthy and whole on the inside. If you truly like yourself, it’s easier for other people to like you, too.

One of my favorite sections of The Charisma Myth was the section on focus charisma. When you are fully present in the moment and focus on the person you are with, they will feel that you are taking them seriously. For example, when I sit down to talk with someone, I put my phone facedown on the table so they know I won’t be taking any calls or checking my texts. It is a simple but powerful technique.
When you give someone your full attention, it shows them you really care. It also makes it easier for you to listen. They may have something valuable to share, but they need to see that you’re taking them seriously before they do.
Kindness charisma builds on focus charisma. When you develop warmth, you will be better able to show you care and make it easier for others to trust you.
Many of the exercises in The Charisma Myth are similar to meditation practices. They are combined with exercises to help you express yourself in a clearer and more direct fashion.
When you internalize the principle of kindness and make it a part of your regular exercises, you will be able to exude kindness charisma with a glance.
Practicing these skills until you can consistently express them in everyday life is part of the learning process. Over time, these skills will become second nature to you, and it will be easier to project power, warmth, and presence.
These changes cannot be made superficially if you want them to work. Your charisma will grow as a direct result of developing genuine empathy and learning to communicate better. In short, people will like you more when you have learned to like them more.
The Charisma Myth Book Review: It Can Help You Be More Successful
Charisma is a set of skills you can use to better express yourself and be more likable. One of the most important steps is to feel more confident and secure in yourself. Diet and exercise can be a big part of creating a healthy self-image.
For another perspective, many women have found this Thinner, Leaner, Stronger review helpful. Getting into shape won’t just help you look better. When you’re healthy and active, you feel better, too.
Many office workers and executives tell me they don’t have enough time to exercise, and when they do, they have no place to go. Yoga is a great form of exercise that can benefit most people and requires very little space or equipment. All you need is a mat, a few square feet, and 10 minutes of spare time.
When you get regular exercise, your brain is healthier and clearer, and you’re able to focus on the people around you better. Yoga supercharges these effects because it also has a lot in common with meditation.
I recommend using a yoga journal so you can get the most out of your yoga practice. When you keep track of your progress, it is easier to stay focused and meet your goals.
